Vocal Arts
Singing Choir
The singing choir is required of all students. There will be two
90-minute rehearsals each day. Each student will receive a packet of music
which will be used in the festival service at the end of camp. Students may
keep these packets and are encouraged to share them with their choir directors
at home.
Repertory Choir
This course is designed for students with extensive choral
experience who are entering grade 10 or higher. It will give the serious singer
an opportunity to experience more challenging music and participate as part of
a separate choral unit in the festival service. Outside study and extra
rehearsal time will be expected.
Vocal Techniques (Voice Class)
This is an active class designed to help anyone who wants to
improve their singing. Techniques for singing solos will be emphasized, and
students may bring solos in which they are interested. Topics included will be
the physical structure of the voice, how to open up and project, correct
posture and breathing, and principles of diction and articulation.
Sight-Singing
This class is designed to help students develop the ability to
read and perform music at sight. You will learn and practice ways to read both
melodic and rhythmic patterns.
A Cappella Singing
This course will cover such aspects of the "barbershop and a
cappella style" as intonation, chordal balance, interpretation, stage presence,
and "tag singing." There will be separate sections for men and women. At
least one meeting outside of the normal class time will be required.
Gospel Choir
This choir will focus on singing and performing music in the
gospel tradition. |
